Chesapeake Beach, MD — Residents of Calvert County will be celebrating the completion of the new MD 261 bridge over Fishing Creek with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, August 29.

The ceremony will be held at the Northeast Community Center on Gordon Stinnett Avenue in Chesapeake Beach 10:30 a.m. this Thursday.

Chesapeake Beach Mayor, Pat Mahoney, town officials, business owners and residents will be joined by Greg Slater, Administrator of the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration and Corren Johnson, District Engineer of MDOT SHA, for the event.

The old bridge was one of the 69 poorly rated bridges identified by Governor Hogan for replacement 2015.

The new wider and taller bridge will safely accommodate motorists, bicyclists, as well as marine vessels. Average daily traffic is expected to increase to more than 27,000 vehicles by 2040.
