Chesapeake Beach Approves $185k Studio Fitness Court Project

CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. — The Town of Chesapeake Beach has approved a purchase order to the tune of $185,000 for a Studio Fitness Court project.

The Fitness Court is a part of the National Fitness Campaign. These courts are open-air, body-weight outdoor gyms that are open to the public and are typically located in public spaces.

For Chesapeake Beach, the Fitness Court will be located in the Kellam’s Field Complex. Half of this open-air gym will be gym equipment, while the other half will be open space where the town can host classes. The plans for the Fitness Court are included in the town Master Plan.

The $185,000 will allow Chesapeake Beach to purchase equipment for the Fitness Court but doesn’t include site prep. The town will also have to present to the county for proper permitting. According to a representative from the county, additional work on the site may include adding more trsoil or a concrete pad, and they hope to have everything in place before any equipment arrives.

The funds for the project will be allocated from the town’s general fund, which is already included in the budget, so no additional funds are required for this part of the process. The purchase order approval allows the town to move forward to the next phase, which will include working with the National Fitness Campaign to order the equipment and schedule installation.

The town did not yet provide a timeline on when the Fitness Court would be available for use.
