It’s only been open for about two weeks, but already McKay’s Market and Café has become a big hit for local shoppers and diners. The reincarnation of the former flagship location of the McKay’s Food and Drug chain has brought several new concepts to the area, including a wine bar and Mediterranean bar. They offer take out or eat-in service (beside a cozy fireplace) for many prepared foods
Several ribbons were cut on Friday to mark the official opening, with Marilyn McKay wielding the scissors. Mrs. McKay founded the chain more than 50 years ago with her late husband, James Manning McKay. The McKay’s Market and Café concept was created by Laschelle McKay and her husband Tommy.
Another special event is planned at the store on Sunday. While the McKay family is excited to bring many new fresh food and beverage choices to the area, they are especially pleased to offer its customers a full variety of Dietz & Watson high quality meats and cheeses. Known for its quality, Dietz & Watson is recognized as the leader in premium deli products in the Baltimore/Washington market. .
As part of the Grand Opening celebration, on Sunday, December 2 at 11am, Momma McKay, (Marilyn McKay) will greet Momma Dietz (Ruth Dietz Eni, matriarch of the Dietz family) for a tour of the new market and café. Momma Dietz will be on hand to greet customers and fans alike.
McKay’s Market & Café is located on Rt. 245 in Hollywood.
