
Richard Wayne Stockman Sr. “Rick”, 80, formerly of Hollywood, MD, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on June 25, 2025 at St. Mary’s Nursing Center in Leonardtown, MD. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on July 11, 1944 to the late Carl Clifford Stockman and Genevieve Virginia (Day) Stockman.
Richard grew up in Essex, Maryland and spent his youth between there and his maternal grandparent’s home in Brunswick, MD and with his paternal father’s family in Frederick, MD. He fondly recalled many family Easter dinners after church at his grandparents’ home. He frequently spoke with sentiment and often recalled sweet memories spent with his family in his early days. He graduated from Kenwood High School in 1964. After high school, he started his career at Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore, MD.
He was previously married and had two sons, Richard Wayne Stockman, Jr. and Carl Vincent Stockman (deceased). In 1972 he met his wife Carol Anne Sparshott and they later married in 1974 and had three daughters. After his time at Bethlehem Steel, he was a butcher for 30 yrs for multiple companies until he finally retired in 2010. In his younger years, Richard enjoyed farming part-time at home with his family. He had a zest for many things and some of his passions were being in the mountains, Civil War history, storytelling, traveling, hiking (especially in New Hampshire), being outside and exploring nature, farming/gardening, listening to music, antique cars, old western movies, weather, and shopping at antique stores. He was always curious and loved exploring new adventures. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, his wife, children, and grandchildren and helping his friends and neighbors. Richard will be remembered for his hard work and devotion to his family, his zest for life, his sense of humor, and his generous and kind spirit to others.
In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his wife Carol Anne, and his son, Carl Vincent Stockman. He is survived by one son, Richard Wayne Stockman, Jr., of Essex, MD, his daughters, Lara Hood (Brandon) of Calvert County, MD, Rhiana Haney (Logan) of St. Mary’s County MD and Carol Stockman-Quade (Chris) of St. Mary’s County, MD. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
