LEONARDTOWN, Md. — On Friday, June 27, 2025, the River Concert Series held its first concert of its 27th season, attracting a crowd of several hundred who came from all over the county to attend.
The program, “A Moment for Our Thoughts,” was performed by the Chesapeake Orchestra and directed by Jeffery Silberschlag, who established the River Concert Series in 1999, the same year “Believe” by Cher and “…Baby One More Time” by Britney Spears topped the charts.

The concert featured the theme from Schindler’s List, written by John Williams, and Fauré’s Pelléas et Mélisande Suite, Op. 80. Below is the full program with links to all the music performed:
A number of food trucks were also at the event, displaying a notable amount of diversity in the food they offered, ranging from Korean barbecue to Jamaican jerk to the more classic hamburgers and hot dogs. For those who attend future River Concert Series concerts, be aware that the line for the Salted Scoop after intermission can extend back to the Greens—the area in which the concert is held—and wait times can be 30 to 45 minutes, so if you’re interested in getting ice cream without missing too much of the concert, it might be best to go just before or during intermission.

The next concert will be held on July 4 and will feature classic hits from jazz legends including Duke Ellington and Johnny Mandel. There will also be a fireworks display, sponsored by Barry Friedman’s Primary Residential Mortgage.
As part of The BayNet’s coverage of the event, we took a handful of pictures of concertgoers enjoying the festivities, found below. A huge thank you to all those who participated!

Hopefully the music the rest of the season is more upbeat! A cloudy, rainy day and a sleepy program was like overdosing on NyQuil. How about less pondering and more inspiration and a little bit of excitement?
