LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A crash in Lexington Park is drawing attention after investigators say a passenger allegedly threatened to kill everyone inside a vehicle before grabbing the steering wheel and forcing it across multiple lanes of traffic and off the road. The incident, which occurred along Great Mills Road, has led to multiple felony charges against a local man.

According to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded on March 6, 2026, to the intersection of Great Mills Road and North Shangri-La Drive in Lexington Park for a reported motor vehicle crash. When deputies arrived, they made contact with individuals who had been inside the vehicle involved in the incident.

Court documents state victims told deputies that Markko Darvelle Morsell, 35, of Lexington Park, had allegedly been seated in the passenger seat during an argument inside the vehicle. During the dispute, Morsell allegedly threatened to kill everyone inside the vehicle before reaching over from the passenger side and grabbing the steering wheel.

Investigators say Morsell then forcibly jerked the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to veer across another lane of traffic before leaving the roadway. Witnesses at the scene reportedly told deputies they observed the vehicle suddenly swerve, with one witness describing the movement as if “someone had grabbed the wheel.”

According to police records, after the vehicle left the roadway, Morsell allegedly fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. Emergency medical services evaluated all occupants of the vehicle at the scene. Authorities reported that none of the individuals requested transportation to a hospital. Deputies later located Morsell, who was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center.

Charging documents indicate Morsell has been charged with five counts of first-degree assault and five counts of reckless endangerment in connection with the incident. He is currently being held without bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 7, 2026, in the St. Mary’s County District Court.

Under Maryland law, first-degree assault is a felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison per count, while reckless endangerment carries a potential penalty of up to 5 years imprisonment and/or a $5,000 fine per count.
