Santa's grand entrance

Leonardtown, MD— “We always look forward to the tree lighting on the square, we (Leonardtown) will have anywhere from 5,000 to 8,000 people attendees. This event is huge for Leonardtown,” said Dan Burris who is the Mayor of Leonardtown.

It’s that time of the year again to ring in the holiday season in Downtown Leonardtown with the annual tradition of Christmas on the Square.

“This is ideal for the business in all of Leonardtown, not for that night. However, when people realize that the town is growing and that we have many new businesses on the square of Leonardtown,” said Burris.

Families had the opportunity to participate in holiday festivities, music, entertainment, sleigh rides, live nativity, petting zoo, and stories with Mrs. Claus, and Santa’s arrival in the square of Leonardtown.

Burris said, “This is a cooperative effort put on by the Town of Leonardtown, the Leonardtown Business Association, and the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department. This is a great event to kick off the holiday season.”

Burris encourages folks to come on out and enjoy holiday entertainment and music while you wait for Santa’s arrival to light the Town Christmas Tree at 7 p.m.

When Burris was asked if there will be enough Christmas joy to light the supersized Christmas tree on the first try, he responded, “Let’s hope we will see.”
