On Sunday, the Charles County Chamber of Commerce announced the winners for its second annual La Plata Festival of Scarecrows. The annual event benefits the Civista Health Foundation this year. Foundation President, Chris Stefanides, was present to receive a check for $5,000. The Festival will pick a new recipient for next year.
Anyone driving through the streets of downtown La Plata can see the scarecrows that organizations, businesses and individuals sponsored and decorated to promote themselves. This yearโs entries ran the gamut from whimsical to scary, simple to elaborate. 10 winners among five categories were chosen from 52 entries.
“Itโs a fun event and the Chamber is looking to expand it more next year!โ said Michele Santiago, Civista spokesperson.
Michelle Lekan, the Chamberโs communication and events coordinator, told The Bay Net that organizers plan to add a Fall Harvest Weekend to next yearโs festival, featuring arts and crafts vendors.
