York, PA– The St. Mary’s College of Maryland Baseball Team (2-6) traveled to York, Pennsylvania for a non-conference match up with York College Spartans (5-1). The Seahawks played a seven inning first game and a five inning second game. St. Mary’s lost game one 11-3 and game two 25-1.
How It Happened (Game 1)
- The Seahawks struck first in the top of the second inning. Gavin Wathen reached base on a hit by pitch. Wathen would get sent home after an Ian Walters RBI double.
- York added a run of their own in the bottom of the second to tie it up.
- George Berbakos led off the top of the third with a lead off single. Chase O’Dell singled the next at bat on a bunt to send Berbakos to third after an errant throw. Berbakos would go on to score after an O’Dell steal attempt.
- The Spartans had a seven run fourth inning to take a 10-2 lead.
- York carried an 11-2 lead into the top of the seventh. George Berbakos and Chase O’Dell both got on base after back to back walks with no outs. Cole Tarleton singled the very next at bat to send home Berbakos from second to make it a 11-3 game.
- The Seahawk rally ended there as York to a 11-3 victory in game one of the double header.
Inside the Box Score (Game 1)
- Cole Tarleton and Ian Walters each finished with two hits and an RBI.
- Chase O’Dell and George Berbakos each recorded a hit.
- David Baggott, Nick Russo, Colin Patterson, and Quinton Maris all pitched in the game. Baggott pitched three innings, faced 16 batters and gave up five earned runs.
How It Happened (Game 2)
- After a scoreless first inning, Cole Tarleton got the Seahawks on the board with a solo home run in the top of the second inning to give St. Mary’s a 1-0 lead.
- York scored 14 runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead.
- Aaron Wathen hit a two out single in the top of the third inning, but the Seahawks could not cut into the Spartan lead.
- York added another 11 runs in the bottom of the third inning to add to their lead.
- The Seahawks added two more hits over the fourth and fifth inning, but could not add any runs to their tally. St. Mary’s fell 25-1 after five innings.
Inside the Box Score (Game 2)
- Cole Tarleton registered two hits and connected on a solo home run,
- Aaron Wathen and Garrett Pullium each contributed a hit.
- Tommy Brill, Ryder Chalk, Willie Nelson, Adam Ferony, and Jack Overton all made appearances on the mound for the Seahawks.
