This weekend, Waldorfโs own Bob Swartz, 47, will be performing exhibition runs on the quarter-mile dragstrip on his homemade invention, the world’s only jet-powered skateboard.
Swartz will be running his โBlue Smoke Jet Lugeโ at the Jet Wars event at Maryland International Raceway (MIR) in Budds Creek at 7 p.m. Saturday.
With the sound and power of a real jet engine and a big smoke show, Bob will jet down the track at speeds near 80mph, just one inch from the ground and will come to a stop only using his feet.
Swartzโs Jet Luge has taken the country by storm since its debut at last summer. He has appeared at several national level drag racing events and air shows, and he has been featured in the Washington Post, the Discovery Channel, WUSA9 News, DC101’s Elliot in the Morning and several magazines.
For the last 11 years Swartz has had a hobby of running downhill gravity luge events, but he started thinking about tweaking it three years ago. After hundreds of hours of research, Swartz debuted his jet luge at MIR last summer.
His former occupation with the U.S. Navy at the Naval Research Lab helped facilitate his research skills, but he went into it with no knowledge of jet engines.
The MIR Jet Wars event, also know as “the Wildest show in Drag Racing” will feature the Jet Luge, Jet Funny Cars, Jet Dragsters, Bob Motz’s Jet Powered Kenworth, snowmobile racing, the Adrenaline Crew Motorcycle Stunt Show and much more.
