CALVERT COUNTY, Md. — Summer may be winding down, but Calvert County’s event calendar is not. September brings live music, local history, outdoor challenges, family activities and several longtime community traditions to locations throughout the county. Whether you want to catch ZZ Top in Solomons, watch local watermen compete on the Patuxent River or spend a weekend surrounded by artists at Annmarie Sculpture Garden, there is plenty happening before fall fully settles in.
Here are 10 events to put on the calendar this month.
Recovery Fest — Sept. 5
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. | Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center
Recovery Fest will bring a free, family-friendly celebration to Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center. The event will feature games, music, art, giveaways and other activities while celebrating recovery and bringing families together.
ZZ Top At The Calvert Marine Museum — Sept. 11
7 p.m. | Calvert Marine Museum
One of September’s biggest concerts will bring ZZ Top to Solomons as part of the Calvert Marine Museum’s Waterside Music Series. The rock group is known for its blend of blues, rock and boogie, with songs spanning decades of music. George Thorogood & The Destroyers will open the show.
War Of 1812 Living History Program — Sept. 12
9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. | Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum
Visitors can step into the Chesapeake region’s War of 1812 history during a day of living-history demonstrations at Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum. The program will include musket demonstrations, fleet displays, stories and period sea songs. The event offers visitors a chance to explore the conflict through demonstrations and presentations rather than simply reading about it.
12th Annual Hunter’s Bash — Sept. 12
Noon to 4:30 p.m. | Calvert County Fairgrounds
The 12th Annual Hunter’s Bash returns to the Calvert County Fairgrounds with food, drinks, games and other activities. The annual gathering is one of several community events scheduled throughout the county on Sept. 12.
Annual Sip & Save Beer-Tasting Event — Sept. 12
1 to 5 p.m. | American Chestnut Land Trust North Side Trailhead
The American Chestnut Land Trust will host its annual Sip & Save Beer-Tasting Event with local breweries, food, live music, yard games and door prizes.
The event will take place at ACLT’s North Side Trailhead.
Superhero Sunday — Sept. 13
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Ward Farm & Nature Park
Families can meet local community heroes during Superhero Sunday at Ward Farm & Nature Park. The event will include games and activities designed for a family day outdoors.
Artsfest ’26 — Sept. 19-20
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. | Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center
Artsfest returns for a full weekend of visual and performing arts at Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center. The festival will feature artists, live entertainment, family activities, food and beverages throughout the weekend. Artsfest has been held annually since 1993 and will take place across Annmarie’s sculpture garden and grounds.
Taste The Beaches — Sept. 19
11 a.m. to 3 p.m. | Kellam’s Field Complex
Taste the Beaches will celebrate the communities and businesses that make up Calvert County’s Twin Beaches area. The annual event is scheduled for Sept. 19 at Kellam’s Field Complex and will bring residents and visitors together for an afternoon centered on the North Beach and Chesapeake Beach communities.
Parkers Creek Challenge Triathlon — Sept. 20
9:30 a.m. | American Chestnut Land Trust South Side Trailhead
Those looking for something more active can take on the Parkers Creek Challenge. Described by the American Chestnut Land Trust as a “triathlon with a twist,” the event combines biking, running and paddling, beginning at ACLT’s South Side Trailhead in Port Republic.
Calvert County Watermen’s Festival And Boat Docking Competition — Sept. 20
Noon | Watermen’s Wharf, Solomons
Later in September, one of Calvert County’s waterfront traditions returns. The 25th Annual Calvert County Watermen’s Festival and Boat Docking Competition will bring local workboats and charter boats to Watermen’s Wharf in Solomons. Competitors will put their boat-handling skills to the test as they race for first place in the docking competition. Food, beverages and live entertainment will also be available during the festival.
Fall Is Just Getting Started
Along with the scheduled events, Calvert County farms are moving into their fall season with pumpkins, seasonal displays and outdoor activities.
The county is also continuing its yearlong America 250 commemoration with programs and community activities connected to the nation’s 250th anniversary.
With concerts, history, art, outdoor recreation and longtime Southern Maryland traditions all packed into September, residents have several opportunities to get out and experience Calvert County as summer gives way to fall.
