Mechanicsville, MD – On Friday, March 4, 2016 at 9:54 am, numerous police, fire and rescue personnel responded to a motor vehicle collision on Route 5 south of Harpers Corner Road.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 1998 Acura, driven by Brian Daniel Pilkerton, 18, of Mechanicsville, was attempting to enter Route 5 from a private driveway. The Acura failed to yield to oncoming traffic and a 2000 Nissan, driven by Anne Marie Kearney , 47, of Brandywine, collided into the driver’s side of the Acura.
A request for Maryland State Police Aviation Command was made, however the helicopters were down due to weather conditions. Mr. Pilkerton was transported by ambulance to Prince George’s Shock Trauma with life threatening injuries. Trooper Medics from Aviation Command accompanied the ambulance crew to provide medical care.
On Sunday, March 6, 2016 at 4:00 pm, Mr. Pilkerton succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced brain dead.
Investigators from the Maryland State Police Crash Team responded and assumed the investigation. The collision is still currently under investigation by Corporal J. Zimmerman, and driver error appears to be a factor.
