James Francis Morgan

The SMCSO has issued the following statement regarding the death investigation of James Morgan:
On August 2, 2018, at approximately 3 P.M., James Francis Morgan was located deceased. Morgan was located in the water of McIntosh Run, in Leonardtown, after an extensive search. At this time there are no signs of foul play and Morgan will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

Update – 8-2-18, 4:18 p.m.
After a search spanning over the past two days, the body of James Morgan was recovered Thursday, August 2 from McIntosh Run River. Morgan was last seen in the water near the Port of Leonardtown Winery by bystanders who called for help. As rescue units arrived to the scene, contact had already been lost with Morgan.
The entrance to the Port of Leonardtown Winery has been closed while authorities investigate the incident and events leading to Morgan’s death.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office will be using a Drone near the Port of Leonardtown Winery to assist in locating missing person, James Morgan. Be advised.
Update – 8-1-18, 4:20 p.m.
The man who went missing after last being seen in McIntosh Run River near the Port of Leonardtown Winery, Wednesday morning has been identified as James Francis Morgan. Morgan, 43 of Clements, is described as a white male, 5’11”, 240 lbs, has brown hair and is considered critically missing.
On August 1, around 10:30 a.m., crews responded to the Port of Leonardtown Winery for the report of a subject in the water. By the time crews arrived to the scene, sight had been lost with the subject; now identified as Morgan. Crews searched for Morgan for several hours throughout the waterways near the winery but their efforts have been unsuccessful so far.

Update – 11:30 a.m.
Over an hour into the water rescue, crews continue to search for a man last seen in the McIntosh Run River/Creek near the Port of Leonardtown Winery. Several rafts have been deployed in the search as well as a dive team from Charles County. Use caution in the area.
LEONARDTOWN, Md. – On August 1, 10:33 a.m., crews responded to Newtowne Neck Road in the area of the Port of Leonardtown Winery for an inland water rescue. One person is reported to be in McIntosh Run River next to the winery. Crews and divers are on scene actively trying to locate the person. Police are on scene directing traffic on Newtowne Neck Road.
