The Sugar Land Skeeters scored three times in the bottom of the 8th inning to break a scoreless tie and shutout the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 3-0 in their series opener.
Neither team was able to score off the opposing starter so it was decided by the bullpens. Against reliever Wade Korpi, Ryan Langerhans led off with a solo home run for the first run of the game. Delwyn Young hit the second home run of the inning two batters later to double the lead. Dominic Ramos added an RBI single later in the inning to cap off the three-run frame.
Both starting pitchers were on top of their game from the start. Mickey Jannis pitched six scoreless inning scattering four hits and three walks for Southern Maryland while David Pauley went seven innings for Sugar Land allowing just two hits with a season-high nine strikeouts.
