Lexington Park, MD – The Westlake Wolverines travel across town this Friday, Sept. 7, to face off against fellow Waldorf high school North Point. The Eagles (North Point) have won 8 of the last 11 meetings between the two teams. Last year the two faced each other in week two, same as this year, and North Point walked away with a 21-0 win at Westlake.

Westlake returned quarterback Jalon Spencer who is in his senior year. The two-year starter threw for 131 yards and two touchdowns last week in the Wolverine’s 38-0 rout over Friendly. North Point’s secondary is much better than Friendly’s, but the Wolverine faithful hope that their team will be able to overcome North Point’s reign.

As for the Eagles, they are bouncing back from a surprisingly close game. Old Mill High School traveled to North Point last year and ran back to Millersville with their tail between their legs after a 42-0 walloping. This year the Patriots held their own though, gaining the lead in the fourth quarter only to be beaten by a North Point field goal. New starting quarterback, junior Asa Williams, will need to bounce back from throwing two interceptions last week. Lucky for him he has an experienced, skilled, receiver in senior Malik Lawrence. Lawrence has over 2,000 career receiving yards, 22 receiving touchdowns, and averages 93 yards per game.

This rivalry game should pan out to be a good one. Follow TheBayNet.com for a recap and highlight video next week.
