Earth Day Celebration and announcement of purchase of renewable electricity, paid for by students. St. Maryโs College of Maryland (SMCM) will be the first college in Maryland to use only electricity from renewable sources and one of only a handful of colleges in the nation to do so. This is thanks to a student initiative to fund the purchase of renewal energy credits. Students recently voted to tax themselves and give the funds towards lowering the collegeโs carbon footprint.
