SMCPS Announce Schools Will Be On A Two Hour Delay On January 5

UPDATE ON JANUARY 4: The St. Mary’s County Public Schools have opted for a two hour delay on January 5, with a Code 5 for employees.

UPDATE: St. Mary’s County Public Schools has decided they will be closing schools on January 4 due to winter weather.

LEONARDTOWN, Md. — St. Mary’s County Public Schools have announced schools are closed on January 3 due to the impending weather. As of 8:45 p.m. on January 2, Calvert County Public Schools are still on a 2-hour delay schedule.

In addition to SMCPS closing, the St. Mary’s County Health Department has also announced some closures for the day.

“Due to anticipated inclement weather, the St. Mary’s County Health Department (SMCHD) will be closed on Monday, January 3, 2022,” the health department said in a release. “This includes the main office in Leonardtown, all satellite offices, and COVID-19 testing and vaccine operations. Normal operations are expected to resume on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. Community members scheduled for COVID-19 testing and vaccine appointments will be contacted directly to reschedule.”
