The school system requested approval from the state on five (5) projects for a total of $6,935,200 in state funds for FY 2007.ย The IAC is recommending $4,160,000 for three (3) projects that represent 60 percent of the construction funding request, as well as planning approval for the first new elementary school.ย The recommendation includes $3,980,000 for the Leonardtown Elementary School Addition/Renovation, planning approval for the first new elementary school, $144,000 for the relocation of state-owned relocatable classrooms to Leonardtown Elementary School, and $36,000 for one single classroom state unit to meet elementary school capacity needs as a result of the implementation of full-day kindergarten.ย These recommendations will be approved by the Board of Public Works on January 18, 2006.ย The only project not approved at this time is the replacement relocatables for the state unit destroyed by fire for a total of $115,200.
The school system will appeal to the Board of Public Works on January 18, 2006, for additional multi-year funding approval for the Leonardtown Elementary School Addition/Renovation project to meet cashflow, as well as the approval of the new relocatable purchase to replace the state unit destroyed in the fire.
