SOLOMONS, Md. — Organizers of Solomons’ beloved Fourth of July fireworks display are calling on the community for support as they work to close a nearly $8,000 funding gap that threatens this year’s event.

Adam Tremper, who is chairing the 2025 Solomons Fireworks Committee through the Solomons Business Association (SBA), said the annual celebration—long considered a regional tradition in Southern Maryland—depends entirely on community donations to move forward.

“This is a Southern Maryland event,” Tremper said. “Without community donations, it would be impossible to host such an event.”

The total cost to host the fireworks is approximately $100,000, according to organizers. A $15,000 grant from the Calvert County Government helps, but the rest must be raised privately. So far, the committee has raised $34,050 but remains $7,950 short of its goal.

“Due to circumstances beyond our control, fundraising has proven especially difficult,” said Solomons resident and volunteer Brandi Maloney. “Our largest historical donors were hit hard by tariffs, and Calvert County cut our funding by $5,000.”

Maloney, a fifth-generation Solomons resident, said she remains hopeful that the community will step up to preserve the tradition. “Nothing compares to the joy on a child’s face when the sky lights up in celebration of our freedom,” she said.

Funds from donations cover fireworks, a launch barge, live music and sound systems, restrooms, transportation, and advertising. All contributions are tax-deductible, and sponsors are recognized publicly—with larger donations receiving more prominent acknowledgment.

“I am committed to working hard to let everyone in Southern Maryland know who supports this event. There are a wide variety of great sponsorship packages that come in all sizes – some small, some big. All sponsors will be recognized in a meaningful way. The larger the donation, the more meaningful the recognition.”

Donations can be made via GoFundMe at https://gofund.me/38396bf6. Alternative donation methods are also available by contacting Tremper directly at SaveSolomonsFireworks@gmail.com or 301-877-1939.

  1. What a joke of a BS line, “Our largest historical donors were hit hard by tariffs, and Calvert County cut our funding by $5,000.” First. Any tariffs, that were just recently implemented, would not be felt until all current stocks of products are exhausted. Unless their suppliers are greedy and charging more simply because they can. Or the SBA, or their “largest historical donors”, are lying to gin up emotional support. Second. The County shouldn’t be giving the SBA any taxpayer funds regardless if it’s for the 4th. The County already spends a lot of money for the law enforcement presence and for traffic control for this event. If they are falling short, reduce some of the expenses by cutting out certain items, (how about not having live bands and loud music playing though the sound system during the fireworks display), or reduce the number of fireworks themselves.
