A big thank you to all the TheBAYNET.com readers that supplied literally hundreds of pictures of the pier fire in Solomons. One reader who did not leave their name supplied the following first hand account of their experience.

“I was traveling on Rt. 4 from the St. Mary’s side, on my way to Prince Frederick, at about 6:45 pm when I noticed a huge, gray, mushroom-like ball of smoke ahead! By the time I reached the top of the bridge (approx. 6:55 pm), the smoke was filling the skyline and the majority of the pier was in flames (all, except for the last 30-50 feet). I was able to capture a few pictures from the top of the bridge as it slowed traffic down! I was able to get a few more pictures about 20 minutes later on my way back across. By then, the entire pier was on fire and I could see at least 3 boats out there spraying, trying to put the fire out. During the drive…I saw several different rescue vehicles, on their way there, coming from both directions. It was hard to tell exactly where the fire / explosion had begun. From my point of view, it looked like the bulk of the flames were a good distance from the large white boat next to the pier, which was much closer to land than where the flames were. There may have been another boat out of my view, but my initial thought was that the pier itself was where the fire had begun.”

One TBN reader, Brian Page with the website โ€“ www.silhouettemetals.com provided a hundred pictures for the story . Avid fisherman, Ronnie Clarke supplied some excellent pictures of the firefight. Another TBN reader, Todd Stevick supplied a link to a video he took of the action http://vimeo.com/4385922 and a reader who calls himself simply, Vince supplied some more great photos.

TBN wants to thank each and everyone for contributing to this wild story. Please take a look at Todd’s video and the amazing reader-supplied pictures.

Also, TBN will be updating the original story with the official Fire Marshall report as son as that information is made available. The original story can be seen here: http://www.thebaynet.com/news/index.cfm/fa/viewstory/story_ID/13048
