The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs faced off against the Somerset Patriots in the second of their three-game setย Saturdayย night at Regency Furniture Stadium. The Blue Crabs sent right-handed pitcher, Ian Marshall to the mound looking to snap a recent seven-game slide and pick up his tenth win on the season. Coming off a 3-1 victory the night before, the Somerset Patriots called upon lefty Roy Merritt, who was making just his first start of the season.

Both the Blue Crabs and the Patriots offenses were looking to get their bats going after neither team was able to light up the box score inย Fridayย night. After pitching well in his last start against the Patriots, Ian Marshall continued his success with a smooth six innings of work allowing four hits and two walks.

Not to be outdone was Roy Merritt of the Pats. Merritt was making his first start of the season and made it a good one, pitching four shutout innings and only allowing one hit and striking out six batters. The Patriots would break the scoreless tie in the eighth as DH Jake Fox and 3B Corey Smith each hit solo homeruns to left to give the Pats a 2-0 lead.

The Crabs would not go down with a fight however as they stormed back to load the bases in the home half of the eighth and pushed across their first run of the night with a seeing-eye single by Renny Osuna that would score Mike Richard from third. Richardโ€™s run would prove to be the only run the Blue Crabs would score, as the Pats would hold on in the 9th to cruise to the 2-1 victory.
