On Sunday, February 4, at 8:28 pm, TFC Trossbach observed a Gray Pontiac Aztec exceeding the posted speed limit on Rt. 5 in the area of Abell Street in Leonardtown. A traffic stop was initiated; contact was made with the driver, Karlaton Antoine Benoit, 25, Hampton, Va.
A check of MVA revealed Mr. Benoit’s driving privileges in Maryland were suspended. Mr. Benoit was arrested for driving while suspended. A search incident to arrest revealed Mr. Benoit had in his possession a 40 caliber handgun. Mr. Benoit was charged with possession of a handgun and driving while suspended. He was taken to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center pending a bond review.
