At 12:44 am, on March 10, Charles County Sheriff’s Officer K. Lerch attempted to stop a vehicle for spinning tires in a parking lot on Drury Drive in La Plata. The vehicle failed to stop and fled to Station Drive off of Washington Avenue, where the driver finally stopped and was apprehended without incident.
Investigation revealed the driver, Joshua Michael Baucom, 27, of La Plata, was intoxicated. He was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, driving under the influence, negligent driving and spinning wheels.
Officer H. Cunningham of the La Plata Police Department responded to assist Officer Lerch and arrested a passenger of the vehicle, Richard Howard Conway, 25, of Waldorf, for disorderly conduct, failure to obey a lawful order and obstruction and hindering. Conway was yelling profanities during the traffic stop and refused to stop.
He and Baucom were being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.
