CALIFORNIA, Md. – The Southern Maryland Section is based out of St. Mary’s Airport. Though the last of the current helicopter sections to be placed in service, it certainly is not the least.
Trooper 7 is currently the Command’s busiest medevac helicopter, with 408 missions in 2020.
Primarily serving St. Mary’s County and portions of Charles and Calvert Counties, the unique geography of Maryland sees the Southern Maryland Section responding as backup for missions on the eastern shore of Maryland, especially in the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, Smith Island, and Tangier Island.
