Workers at Webster Field will soon have a nearby sit-down restaurant available to go to for lunch. Retrieverโs Grill will be opening sometime after the first of the year in the location of the former Monkโs Inn at Route 5 and Trapp Road in St. Inigoes. The St. Maryโs County Alcohol Beverage Board (liquor board) on Thursday approved a Class B (Restaurant) Beer, Wine and Liquor License for the new restaurant.
Jason Clark, former manager of Damonโs in Lexington Park, is the licensee and will manage the facility. He told the board the restaurant would be open seven days a week for lunch and dinner. He said there would be a full lunch menu and traditional entrees for dinner.
Clark assured the board he had no plans for live entertainment or DJโs. The former Monkโs Inn was the bane of the local community because of the noise from the bands and traffic from the customers.
Board Chairman Moses Saldana, Jr. reminded Clark that St. Maryโs College was close by so he needed to be vigilant against serving to minors.
The 60-day contingent approval requires Department of Land Use and Growth Management (LUGM), health department and fire marshal approval before it becomes finalized.
In other business at Thursdayโs meeting the board approved transfers of the licenses of Sign of the Whale Liquors in Lexington Park and Scheible’s in Ridge. Darlene Clark is the new licensee of the liquor store. She also previously held the license when in 2006 they received a violation for selling to a minor. She admitted guilt and was fined. Clark said she would be 15 percent owner and at the store on weekends, while the day-to-day operation would be handled by the Patel family.
Bruce Scheible, Michael Haynie, Sr. and Patricia Sipes are the new licensees. Haynie who lives in Baltimore said he used as a young boy to come down fishing withย Bruceโs father and when he heard it was for sale he jumped at it. He said any expansion of the motel would be dependent on LUGM approval.
The board also approved Chiefโs Bar in Tall Timbersย to use a fenced in back yard as part of the premises and to allow consumption of alcohol in the 35 by 40 foot area. Owner Dave Dent said no entertainment is planned for the enclosed area.
New board member Aaron Mathis attended his first meeting as a replacement for Tom Sacks, who resigned. The appointment expires in January as does Saldanaโs term. Both will need to be reappointed by the governor to continue serving.
