St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office DUI enforcement will be stepped up on February 2. Drivers are reminded to “Make the right play this Super Bowl Sunday – DRIVE SOBER or HAND THE KEYS OFF TO A DESIGNATED DRIVER.”
Meanwhile, on January 30 members of the Special Operations Division Traffic Safety Unit and the Patrol Division, (4 deputies total), conducted a comprehensive traffic enforcement operation. Deputies specifically targeted seatbelt/child safety seat, cell phone, and speeding violations. The operation was conducted on Route 5 in the Charlotte Hall area of St. Mary’s County from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Forty-five traffic stops were conducted, which resulted in 27 traffic citations, 20 written warnings, three verbal warnings, and one criminal arrest (warrant service). Deputies also handled two minor property damage vehicle collisions.
