St. Mary’s Freedom Fest Returns July 3 With Fireworks, Stunt Show And Free Family Fun

LEONARDTOWN, Md. — Families from across Southern Maryland are invited to gather at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds on Friday, July 3, for the return of St. Mary’s Freedom Fest, a free community celebration featuring live entertainment, food vendors, children’s activities and a fireworks display.

The annual event will take place at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds, located at 42455 Fairgrounds Road in Leonardtown. Gates open at 5 p.m., with the evening concluding with a grand fireworks display scheduled to begin at approximately 9:20 p.m.

Admission and parking are free.

Family-Friendly Fourth Of July Celebration

Organizers say this year’s celebration will offer a full evening of entertainment and family activities as the community gathers to celebrate Independence Day and America’s 250th anniversary.

Among the featured attractions is the All-American Freestyle Stunt Show, which will showcase high-energy performances throughout the evening. Guests can also enjoy appearances by a stilt walker, live music performances, a dedicated Kids Zone, craft vendors and a variety of food vendors.

The event has become one of Southern Maryland’s largest Independence Day celebrations, drawing residents from St. Mary’s, Calvert and Charles counties.

Parking, Seating And Event Guidelines

Attendees are encouraged to bring folding chairs and blankets to enjoy the entertainment and fireworks display. Organizers recommend arriving early, as parking is limited and large crowds are expected.

Several event guidelines will be in effect to ensure a safe, family-friendly environment. Coolers are prohibited, and the event remains alcohol- and drug-free. Outside alcohol and illegal substances are not permitted on the fairgrounds.

Community organizations and local vendors are also expected to participate throughout the evening, offering activities, crafts, information and refreshments for attendees.

The celebration is part of Maryland’s statewide observance of America’s 250th anniversary, with events being held throughout the state during the summer of 2026. St. Mary’s Freedom Fest serves as the county’s signature Independence Day celebration.

Event organizers encourage families to arrive early, bring lawn chairs or blankets, and prepare for an evening of entertainment capped by one of the county’s largest fireworks displays.

Community Tradition Continues

The event has continued to grow in recent years, with county officials praising the fairgrounds location for its ability to safely accommodate large crowds and major community events. In December 2025, the St. Mary’s County Commissioners approved $10,000 in funding to support the July 3, 2026, fireworks display, helping ensure the annual celebration would continue for residents and visitors.

As communities across Maryland commemorate the nation’s semiquincentennial, St. Mary’s Freedom Fest will serve as one of Southern Maryland’s signature patriotic celebrations, bringing together families, local businesses and community organizations for an evening of entertainment and fireworks.

As residents prepare to celebrate the holiday, animal experts encourage pet owners to take precautions during fireworks displays. The loud noises and flashes associated with fireworks can cause anxiety and fear in many animals, increasing the risk that pets may attempt to escape. The ASPCA recommends keeping pets indoors in a quiet, secure area, closing windows and curtains, and using soft music or television to help reduce noise. Pet owners are also encouraged to make sure identification tags and microchip information are current before the holiday. Those attending Freedom Fest are advised to leave pets safely at home rather than bringing them to the fireworks celebration.
