Each summer, St. Maryโ€™s Hospital invites local high school and college students to gain hands-on experience in a busy health care environment. This year, 13 high school and four college students are participating in the paid eight-week internship.

For college students Dana Daniel and Anna Winship, the summer internship is a way to gain experience in the health care field, which they both want to enter after college.ย  Daniel, a senior at the University of Maryland University College, is earning her pre-medical certificate.ย  She hopes to attend medical school and study cardiology.ย

โ€œI wanted a deeper insight into how a hospital works,โ€ Daniel said.

Winship is a psychology major at St. Maryโ€™s College of Maryland and plans on attending nursing school with the eventual goal of becoming a nurse practitioner.

โ€œSt. Mary’s Hospitalโ€™s Student Intern program allows local students the opportunity to gain real work experience, learn transferable skills, and grow personally and professionally toward a health care career,โ€ said Marcia Chase, Human Resources generalist II.ย

More than 100 high school students and 75 college students applied for a summer internship.ย  For more information about the hospitalโ€™s internship program, contact Chase at (301) 475-7101.
