For the third straight year, the St. Maryโs (Md.) College field hockey team has been ranked in the Top 5 for having one of the highest cumulative team GPA in Division III as announced today by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
The Seahawks boast the nationโs third highest GPA in the country with a 3.51.ย This is the highest that St. Maryโs has ranked in the Top 5.ย The Top 5 was as follows: 1. York (Pa.) College โ 3.65, 2. Eastern University โ 3.52, 3. St. Maryโs โ 3.51, 4. Vassar College โ 3.50, and 5. University of Rochester โ 3.46.
On top of being one of the Top 5 performers in the classroom as a team, the Seahawks had 15 members of the 2006 squad named to the NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad.ย Those 15 student-athletes by class were three seniors, six juniors, three sophomores, and three freshmen.
Representing the seniors were Kaitlin Anderson (Easton, MD/Easton), Katie Barnes (Wayne, PA/Radnor), and Abby Johnson (Barnesville, MD/Poolesville).
Juniors Ali Femi (Easton, MD/Easton), Mary-Lyle Jeanes (Orange, VA/Orange), Halley Pack (Frederick, MD/Frederick), Emily Richards (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook), Amy Skrickus (Arnold, MD/Broadneck), and Marianne Wood (Wakefield, MA/Wakefield) represented the Class of 2008.
While sophomores Abby Locke (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase), Caitlin Plitt (Baltimore, MD/Catonsville), and Emily Smithson (Midlothian, VA/James River) and freshmen Amanda Bramble (Easton, MD/Easton), Danielle Brown (Fairfax, VA/Woodson), and Julia Puzak (Arnold, MD/Broadneck) were representatives for the underclassmen.
Along with excelling in the classroom, these student-athletes have also displayed their athletic prowess having led St. Maryโs to a 12-5 record, including a 4-2 mark in the Capital Athletic Conference.ย
Johnson, Skrickus, Smithson, and Richards were All-CAC selections, while Wood led the team in scoring with 29 points on 12 goals and five assists.ย Anderson, Skrickus, Femi, and Pack rounded out the Top 5 scorers for the Seahawks.
