Junior forward Mikael Tigrett (Hagerstown, MD/Hagerstown) scored one goal and added one assist in leading the St. Mary’s College men’s soccer team to a 2-0 shutout victory over visiting Frostburg State on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Seahawks improve to 1-2 overall on the season while the Bobcats fall to 1-3 overall with the loss.

Sophomore defender Chris Madrigal (Dunkirk, MD/Northern) scored the game-winning goal with a header into the top right corner off of a corner kick from Tigrett at the 70:42 mark. Tigrett then added an insurance goal at the 75:30 mark off of an assist from sophomore forward Ben Gould for the 2-0 final.

Junior goalkeeper Rick Besore (Upper Marlboro, MD/DeMatha) earned the win in net for the Seahawks. Besore notched five saves in the contest while recording his 12th career shutout,ย theย most in the history of the men’s soccer program.ย Senior goalkeeper Derek Richardson made 11 saves, and was the recipient of one team save , while allowing the two goals in the loss for the Bobcats.

St. Mary’s held a 23-16 edge in total shots and a commanding 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Seahawks will return to action on Wednesday, September 13, when they travel to Swarthmore College for a non-conference contest. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
