LEONARDTOWN, Md. — Historic Sotterley invites actors, students and community members to audition for this year’s immersive tour experience, “Legends & Lore: In a Time of Revolution,” presented over two weekends in October 2026. This year’s production transports audiences to October 1776, a moment when the fate of the newly declared United States hung in the balance and loyalties were tested at every turn.
Set against the backdrop of General George Washington’s retreat from New York and the lingering uncertainty in Southern Maryland following the Battle of St. George’s Island, this year’s event explores the heroism, contradictions and human cost of revolution. Through three powerful scenes, audiences will witness:
- A historic plot unfolding as two British spies land near Sotterley to encourage the enslaved to desert and join the fight against the patriots.
- A moment of reflection and resolve as Washington and his aide-de-camp consider the possible outcomes of the revolution and the necessary leadership for a new country.
- A deadly confrontation between cousins divided between loyalty to Britain or support for the United States that unveils a family secret.
“Legends & Lore” brings to life the tension, uncertainty and deeply personal choices of a nation fighting to define itself. This year’s production promises an unforgettable blend of drama, history and emotional resonance.
