St. Mary’s County Fire and EMS have decided against sending all of their personnel to Baltimore to assist in controlling the riots.

St. Mary’s County Commissioner John O’Connor’s statement is below.

“I support the decision of our County’s Fire and EMS leadership not to send our all Volunteer Fire and EMS to Baltimore City. Helping others is what they do, but it can not be at a detriment to the volunteer’s and St Mary’s County. This was not a decision that was made lightly, but one that weighed all of the circumstances. A majority of our volunteers work for paid agencies and are assisting with those departments. The others have full-time jobs aside from the commitment and sacrifice they give to our county. The leadership also have to worry about the limited resources that would be left in case of an emergency here. The effect on fire and ems service in St Mary’s County, if any of the apparatuses were destroyed, would be devastating. I give great credit to the leadership that made this decision as I know it was a very tough call to make. I will stand by your side all the way!!”
