On March 22 at 3:05 p.m., officers responded to the 2600 block of Old Washington Road for the report of a man firing a handgun at a lock on a metal gate. Upon arrival, officers located Alexander Sternack, 36, of Mechanicsville, who indicated he was at the address to remove property from a storage shed but he couldn’t get past the gate since it was locked and he fired the weapon hoping to break the lock off. Officers found the handgun – a Ruger semi-automatic – and drugs inside Sternack’s car. He was arrested and charged with discharging a firearm and possession of illegal drugs. Officer Sershen made the arrest.
