LA PLATA, Md. — Strong winds continued to sweep across much of the Mid-Atlantic on Friday, Dec. 19, 2025, as the National Weather Service expanded High Wind Warnings and Wind Advisories into additional areas, including Southern Maryland.
Forecasters said multiple rounds of powerful west winds are expected through the evening, with gusts ranging from 45 to 60 miles per hour in some locations. A Wind Advisory issued by the National Weather Service office in Baltimore/Washington remains in effect until 10 p.m. Friday.
The advisory covers Washington, D.C., along with large portions of Maryland — including Southern Maryland — and sections of Virginia. Sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph, combined with frequent strong gusts, are expected to create hazardous conditions.
Officials warn that unsecured outdoor items may be blown around, while falling tree limbs could lead to scattered power outages. Drivers of high-profile vehicles are urged to use caution, especially on exposed roadways.
Residents are advised to secure loose objects, remain alert for downed trees or power lines, and monitor local weather updates as conditions evolve through the evening.
