At 8:45 a.m. on February 22, Officer P. Hood, the Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Officeโ€™s juvenile resource officer assigned to Thomas Stone High School, located at 3795 Leonardtown Roadin Waldorf, learned from the schoolโ€™s vice principal that a student was in possession of a handgun.

Officer Hood confronted the student, Francis Earl Young, Jr., 16, of Waldorf, and recovered a handgun from the studentโ€™s waistband.

The gun, which was not loaded, was reported stolen on April 2, 2002 from a residence in Waldorf.

Young was charged as an adult with possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and carrying a concealed deadly weapon on school property.

He was transported to the Charles County Detention Center and released on his personal recognizance.

The schoolโ€™s principal sent a letter home that afternoon with students to inform parents of the incident. Officer Hood is investigating.
