At 8:45 a.m. on February 22, Officer P. Hood, the Charles County Sheriffโs Officeโs juvenile resource officer assigned to Thomas Stone High School, located at 3795 Leonardtown Roadin Waldorf, learned from the schoolโs vice principal that a student was in possession of a handgun.
Officer Hood confronted the student, Francis Earl Young, Jr., 16, of Waldorf, and recovered a handgun from the studentโs waistband.
The gun, which was not loaded, was reported stolen on April 2, 2002 from a residence in Waldorf.
Young was charged as an adult with possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and carrying a concealed deadly weapon on school property.
He was transported to the Charles County Detention Center and released on his personal recognizance.
The schoolโs principal sent a letter home that afternoon with students to inform parents of the incident. Officer Hood is investigating.
