Mechanicsville, MD — It was a perfect time and place to enjoy spring in Southern Maryland. The annual plant sale at Summerseat Farm in Mechanicsville is an event not only for those looking to purchase plants but also a place to enjoy the beautiful grounds surrounding the historic home and to interact with the farmโs many animals.
The 13th Annual Plant Sale was held Saturday, May 9 and although fog and some light drizzle started the day by mid-morning the sun was out, helping to show off the colors of the plants for sale and around the farm.
Renowned local songwriter and singer David Norris was back this year to entertain while everyone shopped and enjoyed lunch from the backyard cafรฉ.
On sale were just about every imaginable plant, including herbs, annuals, perennials, vegetables, trees, shrubs, grasses, hanging baskets, planted pots and containers along with locally made craft items that made great ideas for Motherโs Day gifts.
Meanwhile down at the barns visitors could watch the bison herd and talk to volunteer Dave Ryan, and get up close and personal with the chickens, turkeys, rabbits, pigs, horses and donkeys.
Summerseat is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization operated by volunteers dedicated to preserving the history, agriculture and natural resources of this property, as well as its educational programs. They are supported by fundraisers such as the plant sale, donations, and memberships.
