At 3:50 pm on Monday, Jan. 9, TFC L. Nims responded to Washington Street, Leonardtown, for a reported theft. The complainant advised seeing two males hide a registration plate in the back of a pickup truck. The suspects then left in a Ford Taurus.
TFC Nims looked in the back of the pickup and located a Virginia tag between two crates. A check through NCIC, however, indicated the tag had not been reported stolen. The Taurus returned and the driver, Michael Alan Knott, 56, of Callaway, told officers he gave the tag to a friend. A check of the surrounding vehicles, for missing tags, was conducted but no vehicles were missing any tags.
A check through MVA showed Mr. Knott’s driving privilege was suspended and revoked, and he was consequently arrested.
The passenger, Ronald Wayne Edwards, 48, of Tall Timbers, was also contacted. During conversation, an odor of burnt marijuana was detected on his clothes. A search of the vehicle was conducted and a bag of marijuana was found in the glove box. Mr. Edwards was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of CDS Paraphernalia.
Both, Mr. Knott and Mr. Edwards were taken to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center and held pending a bail review.
