Prince Frederick, MD โ€“ A suspicious package that was discovered under a parked car in Calvert County Thursday, evening, Dec. 18 resulted in response from the Maryland Fire Marshalโ€™s Office Bomb Squad and heavy police activity in the area, authorities reported.

According to Deputy Chief Fire Marshal Duane Svites, the incident occurred at the Prince Frederick Shopping Center around 7 p.m. The vehicle involved was parked near the Prince Frederick Greene Turtle. The package proved harmless and police reported no one was injured.

โ€œThe owner of a vehicle discovered a suspicious item under the vehicle and notified the local Maryland State Police [MSP] Barrack,โ€ Svites stated. โ€œTroopers arrived to find the item had wires and lights on it and was lodged under the vehicle. They [MSP] requested the State Fire Marshalโ€™s Bomb Squad to respond. Bomb technicians worked with the MSP to secure the area while robot operations were deployed,โ€

In addition to Svites, the bomb squad included technicians John Tennyson, Dale Ednock, Bill Potts and Dfm. Caryn McMahon. Additionally, personnel from the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department and the Prince Frederick Volunteer Rescue Squad were dispatched to the scene.
