At 2:28 a.m. May 5, Charles County Sheriffโs officers responded to the report of a carjacking that occurred on Jacksontown Road in Nanjemoy.
The investigation revealed the victim, a 40-year-old man, stopped to help the occupants of a disabled vehicle. Two of the occupants pushed the victim to the ground, entered his vehicle and fled. They were followed by another vehicle, a white Pontiac. Police communications officers broadcast a lookout for the two vehicles.
Shortly thereafter, Sgt. C. Schmidt observed the victimโs vehicle on Port Tobacco Road near Guy Place. Officers stopped the vehicle and arrested the two occupants, who were identified as Justin Thomas Smoot, 19, of La Plata and a 15-year-old Newburg boy. Smooth and the juvenile were charged with carjacking.
Smoot was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. The juvenile was held at the Charles County Sheriffโs Officeโs court holding facility for a juvenile court hearing. Officers were unable to locate the white Pontiac. Officer K. Burger investigated.
