At 2:28 a.m. May 5, Charles County Sheriffโ€™s officers responded to the report of a carjacking that occurred on Jacksontown Road in Nanjemoy.

The investigation revealed the victim, a 40-year-old man, stopped to help the occupants of a disabled vehicle. Two of the occupants pushed the victim to the ground, entered his vehicle and fled. They were followed by another vehicle, a white Pontiac. Police communications officers broadcast a lookout for the two vehicles.

Shortly thereafter, Sgt. C. Schmidt observed the victimโ€™s vehicle on Port Tobacco Road near Guy Place. Officers stopped the vehicle and arrested the two occupants, who were identified as Justin Thomas Smoot, 19, of La Plata and a 15-year-old Newburg boy. Smooth and the juvenile were charged with carjacking.

Smoot was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. The juvenile was held at the Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Officeโ€™s court holding facility for a juvenile court hearing. Officers were unable to locate the white Pontiac. Officer K. Burger investigated.
