The construction of FDR Boulevard between Great Mills Road and South Shangri-La Drive is finally underway.ย The trucks and tractors youย see between Executive Salon Suites and St. Mary’s Lighting are under contract to METCOM. METCOM is replacing the 50+ year old sewer line with a larger pipe and also installing a water line to serve the future site of theย Lexington Park Volunteer Rescue Squad near the library.ย This portion of the work is expected to be completed in early May.ย St. Maryโs County awarded Great Mills Trading Post the contract to complete the road’sย construction.ย ย If METCOMโs work is finished on time, then the FDR Boulevard road, sidewalk, bike path and landscaping and decorative lighting construction project will be underway by the end of May and completed sometime this fall.ย
And, not to be ignored, Great Mills Road is getting another face lift!ย The State Highway Administration will resurface MD Rt. 246 from St. Maryโs Square all the way to MD Rt. 5.ย ย Work includes milling, resurfacing and re-striping all through travel lanes as well as the MD 237 (Chancellorโs Run Road) tie-in with MD 246.ย This work will take place at night, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.ย During these hours a lane closure and flagging operation may be used to guide motoristsย through the work zone.ย Eighteen thousand vehicles travel on this important stretch of MD 246 each day.ย Let’s keep working together to improve Lexington Park!
The State Highway Administration issued the following press release on the project:
โBeginning Monday, March 18 the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will resurface 2.5 miles of MD 246 (Great Mills Road) from St. Maryโs Square to MD 5 (Point Lookout Road) in the Great Mills area of St. Maryโs County.
โWork includes milling, resurfacing and restriping all through travel lanes as well as the MD 237 (Chancellorโs Run Road) tie-in with MD 246.ย All work will take place at night, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.ย During these hours a lane closure and flagging operation may be used to guide motorists safely through the work zone. An average of 18,000 vehicles travel this stretch of MD 246 each day.
