Last Friday, July 10th, the last issue of The Enterprise newspaper was published. The Enterprise has been published continuously since 1883.
According to the President and Publisher of APG Media of Chesapeake, โEffective Friday, July 17th, 2020, the Maryland Independent, The Enterprise, and The Calvert Recorder will join together to begin publishing as the Southern Maryland News.โ The new newspaper will be issued only once a week-on Fridays. It was a quick transition. APG Media eliminated the position of Donnie Morgan, the Executive Editor of APG Media of Chesapeakeโs Southern Maryland newspapers and digital products.
On April 9, 2020, Mr. Morgan wrote an editorial for The Enterprise where he addressed the negative effects Covid19 was having on the newspaper. Itโs uncertain just how abruptly the change came about, but the new editor, Eli Wohlenhaus, wasnโt even born when Donnie Morgan started working for the paper that would become The Enterprise.
The BayNet would like to acknowledge and express appreciation for the many years of dedicated service and commitment Donnie Morgan gave to the Southern Maryland community.
Thank you, also, to the editors of The Calvert Recorder and the Maryland Independent for your time and dedication to bringing news to SOMD.
