UPDATED Monday, Feb. 20

Lexington Park, MD – On Saturday morning, Feb. 20, St. Mary’s County authorities responded to a work-related accident at a Lexington Park movie theater that is under renovation. According to a report from the Bay District Volunteer Fire Department, an alert went out around 10:35 a.m. and crews were sent to the AMC Theater. “As the crew made entry into the stairway it was discovered that a new section of ceiling had collapsed,” BDVFD officials reported. Two construction workers fell to the bottom of the stairway as a result of the ceiling collapse.ย 

A pulley system was used to remove the two injured workers. A third worker was not injured and was safety removed from the structure with the use of an extension ladder.

An investigation of the incident is being conducted by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MOSHA).ย

Update:ย 11:34 — A total of three subjects have been extricated from the structure and two will require advanced medical treatment at a trauma center.


ย Lexington Park Md. Feb 18 10:30 am. — Reports of subjects trapped in an enclosed stairway has alerted emergency responders to AMC theater that is closed for renovations. At least one subject has been rescued at this time and has sustained serious injuries and will need to go to a trauma center.
