Leonardtown, MD — About 45,000 people attended the four-day St. Maryโ€™s County Fair that concluded Sunday, Sept. 28. That attendance was down from the 50,000 who came last year, due in large part to the steady rain that soaked the crowd on Saturday.

There was something for everyone at the fair. The kids of course had their day on Friday with free admission and discounted carnival attractions. But the carnival grounds were full all four days, indicating that one day wasnโ€™t enough for them.

As usual the fair parade on Saturday was a big hit. With good weather, the crowds flocked to the fair on Sunday for a variety of activities. New events this year included the canine weight pull, which proved popular, and performances by the ZuZu Acrobats.

Food was in abundance, with the requisite funnel cakes, cotton candy, kettle corn and stuffed ham, along with German bratwurst and Asian teriyaki chicken.

Maryland State Agriculture Secretary Joseph Bartenfelder visited the fair Friday with an entourage of politicians including delegates Tony โ€˜Oโ€™Donnell, Deb Rey and Matt Morgan and commissioners Todd Morgan and Mike Hewitt.
