PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Three Calvert County students — James Danford, Carson Law, and Benjamin Kulp, have reached the Eagle Scout rank in their troops. The scouts were acknowledged by the Calvert County Public Schools Board of Education (BOE) at their March 26 meeting.
James Danford of Troop 430 is a senior at Huntingtown High School. Danford has earned 23 merit badges during his time in the Scouts and served as an assistant senior patrol leader, patrol leader, scribe and webmaster. Additionally, he is a 4-H member and works on a charter fishing boat. Danford completed his Eagle Scout project at Jesus the Divine Word Catholic Church, where he removed old pea gravel and edging as well as weeded the pathway of the Stations of the Cross. He then added new edging and placed 7 tons of white stone along with 75 flowers.
Carson Law of Troop 43 is a senior at Calvert High School, where he is enrolled in the welding program at Calvert Career & Technology Academy (CTA). Law has earned 33 merit badges and serves as assistant senior patrol leader and patrol leader. Law completed his Eagle Scout project at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, where he restored a storage shed, which included dismantling the existing structure, repairing and replacing components with new panels and materials, and applying fresh exterior paint and trim.
Benjamin Kulp of Troop 430 is a senior at Huntingtown High School, where he is on the cross-country and swim teams and is an honor roll student and student ambassador. Kulp has earned 23 merit badges and served as the troop’s scribe, webmaster and historian. For his project, Kulp refurbished the Stations of the Cross at St. John Vianney Cemetery. His work included re-staining all 15 wooden posts, cleaning the glass enclosures depicting Christ’s Passion, and clearing overgrown branches — restoring a meaningful place of reflection for parishioners and visitors.
A recognition ceremony of their achievements will be held on April 18.
