LA PLATA, Md. — A tractor-trailer carrying pipes crashed into a tree Thursday morning in La Plata, sending the driver to a trauma center.

Crews were called about 8:30 a.m. May 14, 2026, to the 8800 block of Kentucky Avenue for a reported crash involving a large vehicle.

Upon arrival, crews located a tractor-trailer carrying pipes that had struck a tree. The driver, a 67-year-old man, and another occupant were reported out of the vehicle and walking around when crews arrived.

Emergency crews later requested advanced life support, and the driver was taken by ground ambulance to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center for treatment.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
