Waldorf, Maryland – On Thursday, March 31, 2016, Trooper R. Truelove from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack was responding to a 911 simulcast for a motor vehicle collision that had occurred on Maryland Route 5 in Waldorf.  Trooper Truelove was traveling in marked Maryland State Police vehicle H-17, from St. Patrick’s Drive, attempting to make a left onto northbound United States Route 301.  The vehicle’s emergency equipment was active (lights & siren). As Trooper Truelove attempted to pull from the intersection into lane #1 of northbound United State Route 301, his vehicle was struck on the passenger side by a 2003 Toyota Corolla that had been traveling on northbound United States Route 301.  The Toyota Corolla was operated by Rosa Lee Gibbs, 76, of Indian Head, MD and occupied by Carl Vernon Messiah Sr., 84, of Fort Washington, MD. All individuals involved were transported by ambulance to University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata, MD for treatment of their injuries.  The investigation is being conducted by troopers from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack with the assistance of members from the Maryland State Police CRASH Team.

Waldorf, Md. March 31, 7:30 p.m.– An accident has been reported on Crain Highway at the intersection of St. Patrick’s Drive causing all northbound lanes to be closed.

Update — 9:15 p.m. All lanes have been reopened
