
SEVERN, Md. – A head-on collision in Severn Monday evening, April 21, 2025, left one man dead and several others injured, including a critically hurt driver and three children.
Police and emergency personnel responded at approximately 5:04 p.m. to the intersection of Telegraph Road and Norcross Lane, where a Ford Expedition and a Lexus RX had collided. Responding units found both vehicles with significant front-end damage.
Emergency crews from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department worked to extricate both drivers from their vehicles. The driver of the Lexus, identified as James Thomas Sims of Upper Marlboro, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Ford Expedition, a 19-year-old woman from Pasadena, was flown by Maryland State Police Aviation to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. Authorities said she remains in critical but stable condition.
Three children, ages 7, 5, and 3, who were passengers in the Ford Expedition, were transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital by ground. All three sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section is investigating the crash. The department’s Crash Reconstruction Team is working to determine the cause.
