At 10:55 p.m. Friday, April 28, TFC L. Nims of the Leonardtown trooper barrack was on foot patrol at the Relax Inn, Leonardtown, when he heard what sounded like someone being hit, and then heard a woman scream.

Contact was made with the occupants of the room.ย  Nicole Marie Grannis, 25, of Lusby appeared to have been crying and had fresh bruises on her face.

The trooper observed in plain view, on the dresser, was a white powdery substance โ€œlinedโ€ on a clip board. He also observed on the night stand, marijuana and two smoking devices.

A search of the second occupant, Brian David Smith, 36, of St. Inigoes, revealed pills and marijuana in his pockets. A search of Grannisโ€™ purse revealed several pills for which she had no prescription.

Grannis was arrested and charged with Possession of CDS and omitting a label required by State law to be attached to a controlled dangerous substance.

Smith was arrested and charged with Assault, Possession of CDS and Possession of CDS Paraphernalia.

Both were taken to the St. Maryโ€™s County Detention Center and held pending a bail review.
