LOTHIAN, Md. — Two people are dead following a fiery single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning in southern Anne Arundel County.

Emergency personnel responded to the area of Plummer Lane and Pindell Road in Lothian at approximately 4:30 a.m. after reports of a car colliding with a tree.

According to investigators, a 2014 Lincoln sedan was traveling westbound on Plummer Lane, west of the intersection with Pindell Road, when it veered off the roadway and struck a tree. The impact caused the vehicle to ignite, authorities said.

Firefighters arrived on the scene and extinguished the flames, but both the driver and a passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.

The identities of the victims have not been released, pending further investigation and notification of next of kin.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section is investigating the cause of the crash.
