MECHANICSVILLE, Md. – Today, at approximately 3:12 p.m., police, fire and rescue personnel responded to a serious motor vehicle accident with one person reportedly trapped and unconscious on Three Notch Road, in the area of Laurel Grove Road.

Crews arrived on the scene and found the head-on collision with one vehicle in the southbound lanes and a second vehicle in the median. Two subjects were reported to have injuries, one of which was trapped and conscious.

Firefighters popped the door and extracted the patient at 3:25 p.m. EMS requested a MEDEVAC for both patients.

Firefighters established the landing zone in a field at Laurel Grove Park. Maryland State Police Trooper 7 arrived at 3:45 p.m. and transported the patients to a local trauma center.

  1. I’m still wondering how you have a head on crash with both lanes going in the same direction? It didn’t say that one car was travelling on the wrong side of 235…

  2. My daughter and I were heading northbound on Route 5 last night right around Lockes Hill Road around 7:15 and a driver was coming straight at us going the wrong way at about 50 m.p.h. It was so scary!

    1. Well, you see…one of the vehicles has to have entered the separated travel lane going the wrong direction. Then, they continue to travel in that wrong direction…until they meet another vehicle going in the correct direction. Then(!), either one, or both vehicles fail to stop as they approach each other. Crazy, huh?

    2. Exactly what the guy below me explained. It is a dual highway so yes I was able to get over into my right hand lane..
